When does this happen? It's when the bodybuilding exercises that you do push your muscles to the edge, but not over it. When this happens, your muscles are "torn" because tiny rips are produced in them as you do your exercises to the limit. Your body sees these tiny injuries and starts to repair and build more muscle.

However to do this, you have to give your body time to work. You have to rest. Rest and sleep are as important to a good muscle building program as the work itself. If you do not give your body this time to work, it can't put your muscles back in order, let alone grow them fast for you.

A strange phenomenon then occurs. You start working harder but your muscle gain decelerates, simply because your body is "out of breath".
